Introduction to the Centre

The National Leadership and Innovation Centre for Nursing and Midwifery established within the Office for Nursing and Midwifery Services Director, is a new and exciting development for the professions. This National Leadership and Innovation Centre will support services in building a leadership and management culture that enables nurses and midwives to be actively involved in the planning and delivery of services for patients and clients.

Our Aim

To work with nurses and midwives in building innovation and leadership competencies, knowledge and networks to transform healthcare for patients and the public.

The Essence of the Centre

In the pursuit of excellence in leadership and innovation, Centre staff will enable nurses and midwives to access leadership and innovation resources, to develop skills and raise capacity. This will be facilitated by the Centre through programme development, collaborative working, continuous personal and professional development and service improvement activities.

Our Main Functions

• Facilitate the development of leadership, management and innovation programmes for nurses and midwives within the health services
• Implement a National Clinical Leadership Development Framework
• Build leadership and innovation resources and expertise to support the leadership challenges of individuals and services
• Establish a collaborative working strategy with the HSE Centre for Leadership, Education and Development
• Develop evaluation tools to assist services measure the impact of leadership and management development
• Develop network and partnership strategies to enable nurses and midwives to link nationally and internationally

To support the development of leadership and innovation practices in building the next generation of nurse and midwife leaders.

The Team

The development of the National Leadership and Innovation Centre for Nursing
and Midwifery, within the Office for Nursing and Midwifery Services Director is the
responsibility of Michael Shannon, Office of the Nursing and Midwifery Services Director.
