All certificates are a standard format - where in the past 'long' and 'short' form certificates were available, since 2003 all certificates contain a standardised amount of information and would be the equivalent to what was previously called a 'long form' certificate.
Records available for purchase on this site:
Births registered in the Republic of Ireland from 1922 - present.
Births registered in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland from January 1864- December 1921.
Domestic adoptions registered with the Office of the Registrar General
Marriages registered in the Republic of Ireland from 1922-present.
Marriages registered in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland from January 1920- December 1921.
Deaths registered in the Republic of Ireland from 1924 - present
Still-births registered with the Office of the Registrar General

The registers of Births, Deaths and Marriages are public records, and where sufficient relevant information is given by the applicant, a copy of a certificate can be purchased for a statutory fee.
This means that you can purchase a certificate relating to any birth, death or marriage registered within the times stated above, if you provide sufficient information relating to the event. You do not need to be related to or connected to the parties to purchase the certificate.

The first page is for the applicant details, these are the name and address to which the certificate(s) should be posted, along with the email address and phone number if possible. The applicant must agree to the terms and conditions before selecting the first certificate they would like to purchase - please note there will be an opportunity to purchase other records in addition later on.

Birth
- First name(s) and surname(s) of the person as registered
- Date of birth (there is a checkbox which should be selected if the applicant is not sure of the exact date and has chosen an approximate date)
- Gender
- Father's full name (first name(s) and surname(s)
- Mother's first name(s) and birth surname(s)
- The number of certificates required
Adoption
- First name(s) and surname(s) of the person as registered
- Date of birth (there is a checkbox which should be selected if the applicant is not sure of the exact date and has chosen an approximate date)
- Gender
- Father's full name (first name(s) and surname(s)
- Mother's first name(s) and birth surname(s)
- The number of certificates required
Still-birth
- First name(s) and surname(s) of the person as registered
- Date of still-birth (there is a checkbox which should be selected if the applicant is not sure of the exact date and has chosen an approximate date)

- Father's full name (first name(s) and surname(s)
- Mother's first name(s) and birth surname(s)
- The number of certificates required
Marriage
- First name(s) and surname(s) of husband
- First name(s) and surname(s) of wife (if these changed after marriage, please ensure the surname submitted was that prior to marriage)
- Date of marriage (there is a checkbox which should be selected if the applicant is not sure of the exact date and has chosen an approximate date)
- Place of marriage (please include the full name and address of church/registration office etc.,.)
- The number of certificates required
Death
- First name(s) and surname(s) of the deceased person
- Date of death (there is a checkbox which should be selected if the applicant is not sure of the exact date and has chosen an approximate date)
- Place of death (name of street, hospital, home, town where the person passed away)
- Former residence of deceased (where the person lived)
- Age of deceased person when they passed away
- The number of certificates required

It is not possible to register to use this site, however you can make a number of individual transactions and they will be processed.

You will be asked to:
- Confirm certain details of the life event you wish to get a certificate for
- Confirm your name and address for delivery
- Enter your card details for payment.
If the application is successful you will receive a transaction code which you can check. Staff of the Civil Registration Service will then make a search based on the information you supplied and when they find a record a certificate is issued by normal post. We aim to ship within 5 working days, typical postage within the Republic of Ireland takes a further 2-3 working days, overseas varies depending on national postage systems.

Certificates are posted using normal post, no responsibility is taken for items which go missing en route. The length of time it takes before delivery varies depending on the search and duration of postage. We aim to ship within 5 working days.

The birth, death or marriage must be registered before you apply to buy a certificate, this means that:
- in the case of a birth the parents should have attended in person to register at a Civil Registration Office
- in the case of a death, a relative through blood or marriage or another qualified informant should have attended in person to register at a Civil Registration Office
- in the case of a marriage the Marriage Registration Form should have been submitted to the Civil Registration Service
When the life event has been registered you can apply to buy a certificate if you have the required information and pay the statutory fee.
Before you purchase online, please ensure that the life event has already been registered as a non-refundable search fee of €2 will be charged in the case of all online applications
