How boys work
Testosterone is the hormone that causes all the changes to a boys
body during puberty.
The speed your
body changes at puberty may take you by surprise. Development can take
place at any time between the ages of 10 and 18, but usually it begins
around 13 or 14. It makes no difference when you start it doesn't affect
what you will be like as an adult.
A whole range of BODY CHANGES often marks sexual development but
there will be emotional changes too.
Hair
growth
One
of the first signs of puberty is hair growing where it didn't grow before.
Boys and girls both begin to grow hair under their arms and in their pubic
areas (on and around the genitals). It starts out looking light and sparse.
Then as you go through puberty, it becomes longer, thicker and darker.
Eventually, boys also start to grow hair on their faces and have to start
shaving.
Acne
Another
thing that comes with puberty is acne. Pimples usually start around the
beginning of puberty and can remain to your late teens. You may notice
pimples on your face, your upper back, or your upper chest. Keep your
skin clean by cleansing it thoroughly every day.
Acne
- basic prevention
Cleaning
the problem areas of your skin should be done gently; use mild, preferably
liquid, cleaners rather than soaps, harsh detergents or scrubs. Don't
touch, squeeze, pick acne. You can make it worse by poking at it or squeezing
spots and picking at spots can leave permanent scars on your face. If
you have serious acne problems your doctor will be able to offer some
advice. The good news about acne is that it usually gets better.

Voice
Your
voice will be another sure sign that you are going through puberty. The
voice starts changing after your growth spell has begun - usually around
the age of 14 or 15.
Boy's voices become lower and deeper during puberty because of a hormone
called testosterone. The hormone causes the voice box (larynx)
to grow larger. As your vocal cords get thicker and longer, your voice
gets lower and deeper.
Emotions
During
puberty, you might feel confused or have strong emotions that you've never
experienced before. You might feel overly sensitive or become easily upset.
You might find yourself losing your temper and getting more angry more
than usual. You may feel anxious about all the changes that you're going
through. You might have confusing feelings about sex but it's perfectly
normal, don't worry, just keep your cool it'll gradually become easier.
Don't be afraid to talk about it.
